Our second scroll in Og Mandino’s book The Greatest Salesman in the World repeats this phrase “I will greet this day with love in my heart” multiple times throughout the scroll. He then goes on to describe the different aspects of this love. It is all consuming and the most important thought of the day.
The following quote is so helpful to me:
“Love is what we are born with. Fear is what we learn. The spiritual journey is the unlearning of fear and prejudices and the acceptance of love back in our hearts. Love is the essential reality and our purpose on earth. To be consciously aware of it, to experience love in ourselves and others, is the meaning of life. Meaning does not lie in things. Meaning lies in us.”― Marianne Williamson
Wow! This quote fits so well with the ideas Og presents as well as our task this week to go on a Positive Mental Diet. No negative thoughts allowed. This diet is actually a process of bringing that “love back into our hearts.” “Love is…our purpose on earth!”
I am finding this diet to be quite a challenge. It requires one to step back and observe the thought process at every moment. Is the thought positive or negative? If negative replace it with a positive immediately or start over until 7 days of positive thinking are achieved. The challenge is in observing my thinking instead of “going with the flow” and just doing without thinking.
World thought today would have us believe that there is not much good going on any more. As I am working to observe my own thinking I find I am also observing others more closely as well. Guess what! I am finding so many good, cheerful, kind people everywhere I go. That would be experiencing love in others as Marianne Williamson said. What a joy this is.
So, instead of struggling with this diet, I am going forward to find the meaning in me and loving what I see in others. God, ever-present good, is positive and so am I!
